Hongfeng Li is an associate based in the firm’s Beijing Head Office. He is dual qualified both as a patent attorney and as an attorney-at-law in China.
Mr. Li holds a B.E. degree in telecommunication engineering and an LLM in intellectual property law. He used to work in the telecommunication industry for six years before shifting to litigate patent and technology-related legal matters.
Mr. Li has advised clients both at home and abroad on patent infringement litigations, patent invalidation proceedings and the subsequent administrative litigations. His practice also extends to copyright enforcement of computer software, protection of trade secrets and data assets, among others.

Mr. Li is one of the co-counsels that helped a client secured a favorable court ruling in SPC’s first administrative decision concerning infringement assessment of GUI design patent. He is also part of the litigating team that helped a French sports ware giant in prevailing in an unfair competition suit against a Chinese infringer copying the client’s store design. Both cases won the "Deal of the Year" awards of China Business Law Journal.
A list of selected cases he has handled include:
- Represented a Swedish company in filing a bioreactor patent infringement case and in defending the validity of the client’s patent in the parallel invalidation proceeding initiated by the infringer. The case ended with settlement.
- Represented a French company in filing a backpack design patent infringement case and in defending the validity of the client’s patent in the parallel invalidation proceeding initiated by the infringer, obtaining sizable damages for the client.
- Represented a Chinese company in fending off an architecture construction method patent infringement case. The court of appeal found that the client did not infringe the patent at issue.
- Represented a Swiss company in prevailing in an electrical connector patent invalidation proceeding.
- Represented an American company in defending against a jump starter patent infringement case and in initiating a parallel patent invalidation proceeding. The case ended with settlement.
- Represented a Japanese company in filing a 4G SEP patent infringement case and in defending the validity of the client’s patent in the invalidation proceeding initiated by the infringer. The case ended with settlement.
- Represented a Chinese company in prevailing in a walkie-talkie patent invalidation administrative suit.
- Representing the client in bringing a private criminal prosecution against the offender misappropriated the client’s printer software source code trade secret, obtained favorable first instance decision, which pressurized the offender into settling with the client.
