Overview

Ms. Hua Zhang is a Senior Attorney based in the firm's Beijing Office. She is a litigating lawyer specializing in Intellectual Property (IP) law. Ms. Zhang re-joined Wanhuida in 2022.

Joining Wanhuida in 2005, Ms. Zhang extended her practice to administrative and judiciary enforcement related to trademarks, design patent and copyright.

In 2007, she became the IP Specialist with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) branch in the United States Embassy in Beijing. She held a wide-ranging portfolio, including analyzing China's trademark and IP laws, explaining examination and enforcement procedures and practices in China, liaison with Chinese IP agencies on behalf of the USPTO and the Embassy, organizing and coordinating academic and governmental exchanges on IP matters, discerning trends in legislation, policies and practices and providing support and assistance to American rights holders seeking solutions to IP challenges in China.

Following her tenure with the USPTO Beijing office, in 2015, she moved on to become the Manager of IP protection for Louis Vuitton China. Leveraging her profound understanding of China's enforcement regime and practice, she took on the task of clamping down counterfeits in the fast-evolving online and social-media space, formulating IP protection strategies, collaborating with outside counsels and participating in the investigations and litigations against infringers/counterfeiters, following up administrative/civil/criminal cases deriving from online sightings, cooperating with various platforms including Alibaba, JD.com, Wechat, Weibo, Red, TikTok and Kuaishou, among others.

Ms. Zhang later did a stint at JD.com, one of the mainstream e-commerce platforms, serving as Deputy Director of Brand Protection, a position she held until 2021.

Ms. Zhang's diversified experience in private practice, governmental sector and in-house legal department gives her unique insights in the IP field, which will be conducive to serving the firm's domestic and international clients.
