On July 23, 2025, the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) convenes an oversea-themed symposium for its membership, which attracts about 300 practitioners attending either online or in person.

 

Lei Yongjian, Partner, Wanhuida Intellectual Property, is invited to share insights on “Bad Faith Trademark Filings in China & Latest Developments on Countermeasures against Copycats”.

 

Mr. Lei prepares the floor on the status quo of bad faith trademark filings and registrations in China. He then elaborates on the legislative amendments, and the viable administrative enforcement and judicial routes in stemming the problematic filings and registrations. He concludes the presentation with key takeaways on the remedial approach in addressing infringer’s weaponising of bad-faith trademarks in committing infringement.
